Swedish body massage

Swedish massage was invented by a Swedish fencing instructor named Per Henrik Ling in the 1830s. Other forms of massage were practised in Ancient China in 3000 BC and were developed in the 6th Century AD in Japan.

Swedish Massage is the most popular type of massage and is the foundation for sports massage, deep tissue massage and aromatherapy.  It involves the use of hands to manipulate the superficial layers of the muscles to improve mental and physical health. The specific techniques used in Swedish Massage involve the application of long gliding strokes, friction, and kneading and tapping movements on the soft tissues of the body.

Frequently Asked questions
What do I need to wear?

For a full body massage you will need to undress to your underwear and you will be asked to lie on the couch draping a towel over you. Oils are used for this massage therefore it is advisable to wear something that can be easily washed after the treatment.

Will I be uncovered during the appointment?

For a full body massage each specific area being massaged will be uncovered but your dignity is maintained at all times.  The areas massaged will be the head, face, back, shoulders, arms, legs and feet.  You will be given privacy to get undressed and dressed again.

Will the pressure of the massage hurt?

You will be asked by the therapist if the pressure is ok for you.  The pressure can be adjusted depending on your preference.  If you require a particularly firm massage then a Sports Massage or Deep Tissue Massage may be more appropriate for you.

How long will the treatment last?

A full body massage will take approximately 1 hour but the first appointment will involve a consultation so it may take a little longer. You should allow approximately 30 minutes for a half massage (neck, back and shoulders or just legs).
